In November 2026 the International Summit on the Societal Role of Meat and Livestock Summit will be held in Geelong, Victoria, Australia.
The event consists of two days of conference with a high level of active engagement followed by an optional day of educational tours in this productive agricultural region. The summit will provide the latest evidence relating to the major topics of human health and nutrition, environmental and societal interaction with animal agriculture.
This Summit will improve global understanding of the very different physical environments of Australia, Africa, SE Asia and South America to that of Europe and North America. Populations in the global south are most at risk if we fail to mitigate climate change. These are the regions that will carry most of the load as global population grow to a projected 10 billion people. So it is vital for researchers and decision-makers to understand their challenges and opportunities and to prioritise them in research and development.
This will also provide an opportunity for delegates to experience the locally adaptations being developed and delivered in Australia. Rigorous research and impressive continuous improvement have seen the development of unique aspects to Australian production systems which may benefit other regions.
With the previous two Summits held in the global north, this International Summit will highlight the delegation on the issues facing the global south, and provide balance and expand discussion on the global population, environmental and societal perspectives.
Nutrition Session
Following the presentation of the Nourishment Table during the previous Summit in Denver, as a new conceptual framework for dietary guidance based on nutrient density and processing levels, as well as the publication of the latest US dietary guidelines, speakers within this session will explore 1) how foods should be prioritised within dietary models based on their potential to generate satiety and improve metabolic health, and 2) how the specific category of processed animal-sourced foods (in particular processed meats) should be valued based on their merits and risks within such approaches.
The International Summit on the Societal Role of Meat and Livestock Summit is an event for an invited delegation. Further information on the 2026 Summit will be provided to invitees in early 2026, and the materials from the Summit will be published in early 2027.
